divinityDo Something: Divinity Matovu Finds Her Passion in Uganda. 24 year old Divinity Matovu is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Amageze Gemaanyi Youth Association (AGYA), a non-profit organization that operates a community center for youth in Uganda’s impoverished Kampala region. AGYA, whose partners/supporters include the Africa Millennium Foundation and One Laptop per Child, has created a space that empowers young Ugandans to learn, teach, and grow. Divinity has been recognized as a young leader in social enterprise – she was one of 15 finalists for a $100,000 prize as part of the 2010 Do Something awards, a program that recognizes young adults creating positive social change. From Wisconsin to Uganda. Divinity’s road to AGYA has been a lesson in embracing uncertainty. She was the first in her family to go to college, leaving a small town in Wisconsin for the University of Southern California. At USC, she sought to go even farther out of her comfort zone. While her friends, including many of her black friends, headed to Europe, she opted to study abroad in Kenya, where she spent most of her time connecting with locals and learning Swahili.
